Reiki and Acupressure

Give the gift or relaxation this holiday season, to yourself or others, with Reiki and acupressure services offered by Diane Harraka.

Reiki is an ancient hands-on healing technique that is safe, gentle and non-intrusive practiced by MALO Health & Wellness specialist Diane Harraka. It consists of light, non-invasive touch with the experienced practitioner’s hands placed and held on a series of locations on the head and front and back of the torso, or held slightly off the body.

This technique is based on the principle that the therapist channels energy into the patient by means of touch. This healing touch restores physical and emotional well-being by activating the natural healing processes of the patient’s body. In addition to benefits at any particular time and for various conditions, Reiki can bring comfort in an acute or emergency situation, such as the onset of an illness or following an injury or surgery. Stress reduction and relaxation that Reiki produces also facilitate healing. And while Reiki promotes healing, keeping “life force energy” levels high also promotes health and happiness.
Reiki is comprised of two Japanese words – Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki which is “life force energy.”

Although responses can be varied and subjective, at least one study reported that recipients of Reiki frequently feel that they are hovering in a threshold state of consciousness, simultaneously aware of their surroundings and deeply indrawn. Some people fall into a deep, sleeplike meditative state.

“Reiki or acupressure therapy brings the body into perfect and complete balance. It helps create an environment of peace and tranquility within your body that can aid in relieving stress and promote healing,” said Diane Harraka, founder of Restore Wellness Reiki and Acupressure. “Completion of Reiki or acupressure therapy sessions has been attributed to patients experiencing reduced pain, lowered blood pressure, and decreased recovery time from surgical procedures.”

Acupressure is a technique similar in principle to acupuncture. It is meant to facilitate the energy which flows through the body’s “meridians”. Acupressure entails physical pressure applied to the body’s trigger points with the aim of clearing blockages in the meridians. Pressure may be applied with various techniques, including the hands or elbows.
